Australian Gold Production Reaches 300 Tonnes in FY 2025

Australia's gold production reached 300 tonnes in the fiscal year 2025, driven by high gold prices, according to Surbiton Associates. The Melbourne-based consultancy noted that gold mine production for the quarter ending June 2025 was 76 tonnes, a 4% increase from the previous quarter. This marks the highest annual production since the 2022–2023 financial year, nearing the record of 328 tonnes set in 1999–2000.

Despite not surpassing all-time highs, the sector benefits from record-high gold prices. The value of Australia's 2024–2025 gold production was over A$50 billion (USD$32.8 billion), making gold the country's fourth most valuable export after iron ore, coal, and liquefied natural gas.

Dr. Sandra Close, a director at Surbiton Associates, emphasized the efficiency and importance of Australia's gold mining industry, noting that gold exports alone are about half the value of Australia's combined exports of farming, forestry, and fishing products.
